PBIS at Stoneville Elementary
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. PBIS is a county wide behavior plan that is designed to fit the needs of all students. We have a committee that makes sure PBIS is implemented and successful for all staff and students. As of 2017, all Rockingham County Schools are now using PBIS. At Stoneville, we are in our first year of implementation, Tier 1.
BEARS Motto:
B - Be here
E - Earn respect
A - Always be kind
R - Responsibility is key
S - Safety first
PBIS Tickets
|
Students can earn tickets on a daily basis from any staff member in the school. Teachers and staff are always on the look out for students following the BEARS motto. Tickets are collected and used for classroom incentives and school wide celebrations.
Classroom Bear Paws
If any staff member sees an entire class following the BEARS motto, he or she can recognize that class with a bear paw. Bear paws are posted on classroom doors for the entire school to see. For every 5 bear paws a class earns, they get to choose an incentive from a school wide list. Some of these choices include class spirit day, extra recess and class show-and-tell.
Consequences
Students can be written up for MINOR and MAJOR offenses. Examples of minor offenses would be disruptive behavior, dress code violation, or using profanity. Major offenses would include things like fighting, defiance/disrespect and bullying. Major offenses are automatic office referrals. When a student receives 3 minor write-ups, this becomes an office referral. Consequences for office referrals begin with a 1/2 day of in school suspension, progress to 1 whole day of in school suspension and eventually out of school suspension if the behavior continues. More severe behaviors go directly to out of school suspension.
Incentives and Celebrations
WE LOVE CELEBRATING PBIS SUCCESS AT STONEVILLE ELEMENTARY!!! Each classroom chooses representatives as Bear of the Week and Bear of the Month. The BOW receives some type of classroom recognition determined by the teacher. The BOM attends a school wide ice cream party held at the end of each month. We have HUGE celebrations at the end of each 9 weeks. Students who earn a specific number of tickets each grading period and have less than 2 office referrals (includes bus referrals) are invited to attend these SUPER FUN events! This year our students will wear costumes and participate in our 2nd Annual Halloween Treat Street, attend a glow dance party, take a field trip to Freedom Park, and will have water day at the end of the year!
